Registering for the current school year
Please book an appointment with our registration team and bring completed registration forms and required paperwork. If you cannot book an appointment time, the registration team accepts walk-ins at the Welcome Centre. Also note the following:
- Students will be placed in schools where spaces are available.
- New students are unlikely to receive placement in their school of choice.

- Placements are not guaranteed.
- Students who register before the deadline have in-catchment priority over those who apply after.
- The district may use a lottery system to place in-catchment school students if demand for spots far exceed available room.
How to register

- Please let us know in the form if you require a translator.
- If there are no more open appointment slots, visit the registration team at the Welcome Centre.
- (south side of the New Westminster Secondary School building)
- Monday to Friday – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (excluding holidays)
- Download and complete a registration form for each child.
- Bring the requirement paperwork outlined in the Document Guide for Parents and Caregivers.
- NOTE: If you do not have paperwork, the registration team will help you confidentially find a solution.
- Visit the registration team at the Welcome Centre at your appointed timed.
- Bring the completed registration form(s) and copies of the required paperwork. You may also bring originals and our staff will make copies.
- If you do not have paperwork, let our registration team know when you arrive.
Out-of-catchment and transfer applications
Only students with siblings attending out-of-catchment schools (who will still be attending the school at the time the younger sibling starts) may apply for out-of-catchment transfers.
- Applications are currently closed.
Only students with siblings who are attending a district school as an out-of-district student (and who will still be attending the school when the younger sibling starts) may apply for out-of-district placements at schools other than New Westminster Secondary.

New Westminster Secondary School is currently closed to out-of-district applications. Only submissions from students attending district middle schools will be considered.
Applying for Programs of Choice (waitlist now closed)
- NOTE: Programs of Choice are only available to students who are enrolled in a New Westminster district school.
- Applications for the 2025/2026 school year open at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025.
How to register for Programs of Choice
- All new Early French Immersion students with sibling status have priority placement.
- Kindergarten or Grade 1 applications received before the deadline enter into a lottery to determine placement.
- Grade 2 or higher students are placed based on when they submit their application (i.e. submit early for a better chance at placement), space permitting.
- Students applying for Early French Immersion that starts in Grade 2 or higher must have previously been in Early French Immersion program in another district.
- Students with sibling status have priority placement.
- Students who submitted an application using the previous application process (prior to June 2015) are next in priority.
- All other applications are entered into a lottery to determine placement.
- All new Montessori students with sibling status have priority placement.
- Kindergarten or Grade 1 applications received before the deadline enter into a lottery to determine placement.
- Grade 2 or higher students are placed based on when they submit their application (i.e. submit early for a better chance at placement), space permitting.
- New Home Learners Program students with sibling status have priority. Placement will follow the priorities outlined in Administrative Procedure 220.
